Courtney DuCaine is an accomplished musician among a small handful of North American practitioners in the ancient arts of North Indian Classical music. In 2002, Courtney received her BFA in world music from California Institute of the Arts with an emphasis on sitar, studying with numerous masters including Rajeev Tarnanath and Swapan Chaudhuri. To further her interest in North Indian Classsical, Courtney receives extensive training from Partha Chatterjee in both India and the United States. During the winter of 2005, she lived with a Bengali family in Calcutta, India while learning sitar. Recently, in the spring of 2007, Courtney performed in a 13 city European tour with Anoushka Shankar, daughter of legendary Sitar player Ravi Shankar. Courtney’s passion for world music developed over the past thirteen years while exploring different instruments including, Balinese gamelan, guitar, piano and flute. In pursuit of her interest in different cultures, Courtney travels extensively throughout the world to such diverse countries as India, Bali, Thailand, Turkey, and Australia. Based in Los Angeles, California, Courtney performs regularly in a number of world music collaborations with such established artists as world musician Paul Livingstone, singer / songwriter Abba Roland and electronic artist Celeste Lear. Primarily, she performs in the traditional North Indian Classical style on Sitar with Tabla accompaniment.
